The Hurt Around You

There are only two kinds of people in this world. Those who know Jesus and those who don’t, right?

Perhaps, but it seems more complicated than that, doesn’t it? Here is the reason why. “People hurt.” They are hurting, and sometimes hurt others.

And they hurt so much that it seems permanent. And until we understand this, it is difficult to bring them hope.

So here are three ways you can understand how people hurt. And they are all found in Romans, chapter 5.

#1. They may be “Helpless.” (Romans 5:6-7):

A person may have no strength or ability to help themselves. They are powerless. What did Christ Jesus do for helpless people? He died in their place. He did it for them; to make a way with his own strength. Sometimes people just need help.

#2. Do you know any “Sinners?” (Romans 5:8-9):

That’s right, people are sinful. How do you feel about that? “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” ?and “having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath.” Human sin has been justified through the cross of Christ Jesus. If Jesus can deal with your sin, He will do it for theirs too. Let someone know they no longer have to be defined by their pain or someone’s sin. (even their own) God’s love is toward them and a new life is prepared for them. Kindly ask them to honor God by walking in it.

#3. God-haters are “Enemies of God.” (Romans 5:10-11):

These people hurt because they think God must think like they do. He apparently doesn’t, so they are angry or disappointed – and don’t even realize it! But God is not mad at them. Through Christ, he has reconciled them to Himself. He comes to be their friend. Friendship is the cure for enmity. That’s what they need.

Now go. Help the helpless. Love the sinners. Be a friend to the enemies of God.

Bring hope, joy and peace to the hurt around you.
